I relinquished WAFU presidency to focus on Ghana, CAF roles – Kurt Okraku

CAF Second Vice-President Kurt Okraku has expressed his commitment to overseeing the development of football in Ghana following his decision to relinquish the WAFU presidency.

Okraku stepped down from his role as President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B.

In an interview with Asempa FM, the 54-year-old reiterated his desire to maintain a close watch on Ghanaian football while providing opportunities for others within the zone to assume leadership roles.

“At all times, you need to study yourself, the space you belong to and react appropriately. Maybe as a human being, you may think you are capable of doing it (combining three roles) but it (may not be the best),” he said.

“I think allowing my other colleagues to serve on the WAFU level will give me that space so that I don’t lose track of what is happening in Ghana.”

Kurt has now joined Faouzi Lekjaa, who will serve as the First Vice President, replacing Senegal FA President Augustine Senghor, while Kurt Okraku takes over from Ahmed Yahya.

His elevation was confirmed on Saturday, April 26, 2025, by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe during a press conference in Accra.
