Dormaa Central MCE position: Constituency Chairman withdraws from the contest on the Vetting Day

In the hear up to the event, Mr. George Gyau, known as Chairman Agarpet, the NDC Chairman of the Dormaa Central Constituency, has decided to withdraw his candidacy for the position of MCE for Dormaa Central Municipal. Initially one of nine aspirants, his withdrawal now leaves eight candidates who successfully passed through the vetting process on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in Sunyani, the capital of the Bono Region.

Elaborating on his reasons for withdrawing, Mr. George Gyau explained that, as the party chairman in the constituency, he was advised by some regional and national executives to step down. This decision enables him to offer valuable counsel to the remaining contenders when necessary.

He highlighted that, since assuming the role of constituency chairman, he has expedited the promotion of unity and political tolerance within the party, culminating in the party’s first victory since 1996 hence he emerged as one of the favored contenders for the MCE position. However, he felt it necessary to heed the counsel of the party’s upper echelons, as a gesture of respect towards the venerable party elders and to foster unity and togetherness.

Mr. George Gyau, (Chairman Agarpet), advised the remaining eight contestants to exhibit selflessness and political tolerance by providing the necessary support for the candidate that will be selected as the MCE. He emphasized that although all the eight candidates are qualified for the position, the seat is constitutionally designated for one individual. Therefore, the remaining seven must accept the outcome and support the MCE to ensure effective collaboration with President John Mahama to facilitate development in Dormaa Central Municipality. This cooperation and development agenda aims to secure victory for the NDC in future elections within Dormaa Central and Ghana at large.
