NPP’s Abronye remanded for one week

The court has remanded the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, into police custody after he was arraigned today on charges of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.

The Ghana Police Service, in a statement issued on Monday, September 8, confirmed that Abronye had been arrested last week and held in custody ahead of his court appearance.

Although the Police did not disclose details of the conduct that led to his arrest, the outspoken politician has recently attracted widespread public attention.

Before now, he had filed for asylum in eight countries — including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany, and Côte d’Ivoire — alleging political persecution and threats to his life.

As part of the investigations, Police officers also searched the residence of former NPP Youth Organiser Moses Abor on Sunday, but did not find Abronye there at the time. The case will return to court on September 19.
